Statistics from the statistical agency IHS Markit show that in the third quarter of this year (July to September), the share of OLED displays in the entire smartphone market reached 61.1%, valued at US$6.6 billion.
Previous tracking data is that in the first quarter of 2017, OLED displays accounted for only 35% of mobile phones, and the growth rate has been rapid for more than a year.
The popularity of OLED displays is related to the increase in demand for flexible panels. It has inherent advantages in matching screen fingerprints, special-shaped displays, narrow bezels, curved surfaces, and foldability.
It is worth mentioning that among the OLED small-size display panel manufacturers in the current season, Samsung’s display sector accounted for 93.3% of the market, and flexible OLED displays accounted for 94.2%.
In terms of revenue, Samsung's total share of the entire smartphone display screen market after the merger of LCD is 57.8%, far exceeding BOE's 7.8% and Tianma's 7.7%.
However, after Huawei will become the world's largest smartphone in the next year and Apple's sales have continued to decline, Samsung's OLED display market position may be affected.
