The viewing angle of a LCD screen refers to the maximum angle range at which the display effect (such as brightness, contrast, color) can be maintained within an acceptable range when viewed from different angles. The viewing angle is one of the important parameters for measuring the quality of screen display, especially for scenes where multiple people share the screen or view from a non frontal angle (such as advertising screens, multi screen splicing).

1, Definition and Standards of Perspective Angle

Measurement method of perspective
Usually based on the screen normal (vertical direction), it is represented by the angle range in both horizontal (left/right) and vertical (up/down) directions, for example: 178 °/178 ° (horizontal/vertical).
Standard definition: When the contrast ratio (CR) of the screen decreases to 10:1 (i.e. brightness attenuation below 10%), the corresponding angle is the maximum viewing angle (usually marked by manufacturers).

Color cast and brightness attenuation
As the viewing angle increases, the ability of liquid crystal molecule arrangement to control light decreases, resulting in:
Brightness decreases (the screen darkens when viewed from the side);
Decreased contrast (black may appear gray, white may turn white);
Color cast (decreased color saturation or color tone shift, such as whitening on the side of TN screen and slight purple on the side of IPS screen).

2, Key factors affecting the perspective angle

LCD arrangement method
The liquid crystal molecules of TN panels are vertically twisted and arranged, resulting in low lateral light transmittance;
The IPS/VA panel adopts a horizontal or multi domain arrangement for more uniform light control.

Polarization film and compensation film
High end screens will improve viewing angle performance and reduce color cast through Wide View Film compensation.

Backlight design
Direct lit backlighting has a more stable viewing angle than edge lit backlighting, but at a higher cost.

3, Precautions in practical applications

Purchase suggestions
Multi person sharing scenarios (conference screen, advertising screen): Prioritize IPS or VA panels;
Esports or high-speed response demand: TN panel can accept sacrificing viewing angles;
Professional design/photography: It is necessary to choose a wide-angle IPS screen (such as LG Nano IPS, Samsung PLS).

Perspective testing method
When observing the screen, move it from the side to check if there is a significant color shift or sudden drop in brightness;
Use test images (such as solid colors and grayscale gradients) to verify display consistency under viewing angles.

Environmental light impact
Strong ambient light (such as direct sunlight) can magnify the viewing angle issue, and choosing an anti glare coating (Matte Screen) can alleviate it.
